Girl's Night Out Highlights

Jim & Connie King
Two of Tulsa's favorite musical entertainers joined forces in 1994 and
their popularity and success quickly established them as one of
the best duos to ever appear on a Tulsa stage.
Jim King has performed in Tulsa in bands, duos,
and as a solo act since the 1970's, singing, playing guitar, and
specializing in the "one-man-band" concept. Connie King
(formerly Connie Saffa) sang blues in Memphis for 15 years.
Jim & Connie performed regularly at Lennie's
Club in 1994 and got married in August of that year, making
their duo a permanent one.
Jim & Connie's music will appeal to most age groups because they
perform so many different styles—and they do them all well!
Styles includes pop, blues, jazz, country, light rock,
spiritual, and classics from the past. They perform music from
the 40's and 50's all the way up through the 90's.
Ellis Widner wrote this about Jim in the Tulsa
Tribune (Sept. 3, 1988): "King's fluid, jazzy guitar work and
his honeyed voice brings a welcome warmth…a versatile singer…a
lively rapport with the audience…working from a song list of
about 1000 tunes, King proved adept in several styles."
Terrell Lester wrote about them in the Tulsa
World (August 8, 1994) and described the combination of the
full-band sound and Connie's "superb voice" as a "night of
top-rate entertainment." Connie shows off her amazing voice and
style as she sings tunes by many artists including Whitney
Houston, Mariah Carey, Barbra Streisand, and Patsy Cline. She
especially shines on blues numbers. She is truly a unique,
special talent.

GHQ
Jazz Trio (Bruce Guthrie, Jack Hannah, Kenny Quinn) perform the jazz
of the "west coast cool" tradition made internationally famous by
Oklahoman Chet Baker. Songs by Cole Porter, Henry Mancini and many
others are played during their presentation.
Hannah and Quinn both performed with Baker and Guthrie is the
director of the Chet Baker Foundation based in Tulsa.

More about Score...
Chuck
& Sandy Gardner form the foundation of SCORE. Highlights of their
performances are the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs; Caesars
Palace in Las Vegas; The Argyle, San Antonio Country Club, Oak Hills
Country Club and the Petroleum Club in San Antonio; Dee Felice’s and
The University Club in Cincinnati; The Blue Room in Kansas City, and
Southern Hills Country Club, Emilio’s Piano Lounge, the Tidal School
Winery, Ciao’s Primo Room, the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, and The
Performing Arts Center in Tulsa.
Sandy’s musical career began in Tulsa, her hometown, as a vocalist
in school and church choirs. After traveling with several big bands
throughout Colorado as a vocalist, Sandy decided to broaden her
musical career and began studying bass guitar. Now an accomplished
bassist, Sandy has worked as a vocalist and bassist with the Larry
Herman Orchestra, the Ed Geimer Orchestra, and the Nobuko Jazz Trio
in San Antonio. She performed as bassist with the Shirley Jester
Trio, with the late jazz guitarist, Cal Collins, and with the Herb
Kirschner Trio in Cincinnati. Following her return to Tulsa, she has
been a featured vocalist at Mayfest, Jazz on Greenwood, The Oklahoma
Jazz Hall of Fame, and with the Tulsa Jazz Society. She is also a
writer member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and
Publishers (ASCAP). Sandy has earned the respect of her fellow
musicians as both a fine vocalist and bassist.
A Pianist, Composer and Orchestrator, Chuck has performed and
recorded with Bob & Dolores Hope, Rosemary Clooney, Vic Damone,
Clark Terry, Nancy Wilson, and Chuck Cissel to name a few. Chuck has
performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall and has toured “down
under” in Australia. A writer member of the American Society of
Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), he had the envious
opportunity to study with Henry Mancini. While residing in Tulsa,
Chuck performed with the Tulsa Philharmonic and continues to be a
featured pianist at Tulsa Jazz Society and Oklahoma Jazz Hall of
Fame events. He is an active member of the IAJE (International
Association for Jazz Education).
Their "real jazz” musical style evokes enthusiasm from both the
young and the young-at heart. SCORE provides a timeless musical
repertoire displayed with refreshing originality.

Saturday - May 9th, 2009 "Little Black Dress
Evening" A cocktail attire party with music by the
talented Rhett Butler
Rhett Butler is the
Obsessive-Compulsive Guitarist. In 1987 he received his
first guitar for Christmas. As his primary antidote against
the pain and fear that he felt through his brother's bouts
with cancer, Rhett retreated into the instrument. What
blossomed was a fiery work ethic that is reflected in his
mastery of multiple styles and his passionate performances.
Rhett was admitted to the prestigious jazz program at
the University of North Texas in 1993. Early on, Rhett
developed a trademark hammer-on style that allows him to
play two guitars at once by fingering each of their fret
boards, coaxing filigreed harmonies and shimmering melodies
without needing to strum.
Though Rhett is most well
known for playing two guitars at once, don't make the
mistake of trying to classify him as a gimmick performer or
a one trick pony. He regularly features five or six
different guitars during his performances.
Rhett has
performed with Tommy Emmanuel, Al DiMeola, Eric Johnson, Joe
Satriani, Monte Montgomery, Larry Corryell, Tony Trischka,
The California Guitar Trio, Carl Palmer, Andy Timmons and
many other legends of instrumental music. He is among the
next generation of Texas guitar heroes.
